Wishbone Ash hits the Tangier on Friday, October 6th. Opening will be Savoy Brown with Kim Simmonds. These two British bands have a legendary history in the music scene since the 1970’s. Their longevity, music, touring and passion have been maintained throughout the years, despite constant change in the music industry.

The Tangier is a Cabaret style stage setting offering a variety of entertainment, dining and drink. The Akron landmark has a storied history of some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry performing at this lovely venue.  The immaculate facility has a professional customer friendly staff to assist you with all your needs. Tangiers can assist you with Banquet planning, dining, wedding receptions, or a private party. Free parking is available in the covered parking garage for all events.

Wishbone Ash, headliner of the show are a British Hard Rock, Blues Rock, and Progressive Rock mixed band that hit it big in the early and mid-1970’s. Some of their popular albums were ‘Wishbone Ash’ (1970), ‘Pilgrimage’ (1971), ‘Argus’ (1972), ‘There’s The Rub’ (1974), and ‘New England’ (1976). Their harmonious twin lead guitar format has attracted electric blues fans since Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page played together in The Yardbirds; earning them a spot in “Top 20 Guitarists of All Time” by Rolling Stone Magazine.

Band founder, Andy Powell (guitar, vocals), along with: Bob Skeat (bass, vocals), Joe Crabtree (drums) and guitarist, Mark Abrahams; are set to provide you with their musical legacy of the past and present.

I haven’t seen Wishbone Ash since the early 90’s in Columbus, Ohio with Uriah Heep and Blue Oyster Cult. It was definitely a great performance that night with the band igniting the fans with memorable tunes and a energetic show! We are looking forward to seeing Wishbone Ash!

Andy Powell and company have maintained a long-time musical association with Uriah Heep by having both bassist’s Trevor Bolder (RIP 2013) and John Wetton (RIP 2016) as one-time members of the band. Wishbone Ash are one of the hardest touring bands in Europe. Over decades, the band has toured extensively with other notable hard rock bands such as: Nazareth, Deep Purple, Savoy Brown and Uriah Heep.

Savoy Brown with Kim Simmonds

Savoy BrownFormed in 1966 by guitarist, Kim Simmonds, Savoy Brown  are one of the earliest British Blues bands still in existence today! Simmonds is noted for bringing back the blues music movement to the USA.  His influence has attributed to many other styles of rock music over the years. It all began decades ago, with Simmonds and his soon-to-be band-mates assembled onstage in a small London music venue along with John Bonham (RIP 1980) on drums (who would soon soon join Led Zeppelin), for a jam session and blew the crowd away! As the say, ‘the rest is history’!

Currently with a smokin’ hot new album, ‘Witchy Feelin’‘ released this year on Ruf Records, Savoy Brown and Kim Simmonds deliver supreme British Blues at it’s finest! The savvy, aggressive tunes are so rich and heavy with solidness you’d think it’s the 1970’s all over again.  Kim Simmonds guitar work is amazing.Bassist, Pat Desalvo and drummer, Garnet Grimm bring the beef of double the musicians as the heritage of the early 60’s, Chicago Blues is strongly presented.

Savoy Brown line-ups have featured drummer, Roger Earl, bassist Tony Stevens and lead guitarist, Dave Peverett (RIP 2000) during their early years, who would eventually form Foghat. Drummer, Bill Bruford (YES, UK), guitarist and keyboardist, Paul Raymond (UFO), Andy Pyle (The Kinks, Wishbone Ash and Chickenshack) in various formations of the band.

With a history of playing sold-out arena shows with Humble Pie, Fleetwood Mac, Jethro Tull and Cactus, it’s easy to see why Savoy Brown and Kim Simmonds are indeed a rock institution for over half-a-century!

Don’t miss this duo of legendary bands to take the Tangier stage on Friday, October 6th!
