That “little ‘ole band from Tejas”- ZZ Top made our list of “power trios” with a powerful boogie, mouth-watering licks and their delightful Texas charm. ZZ Top features guitarist and vocalist, Billy Gibbons, bassist and vocalist, Dusty Hill and drummer, vocalist, Frank Beard. The original band formed in 1969 and success found them in 1973 with the release of their third album “Tres Hombres.”

It was during this time period their blues-based songs with sometimes added humor in the lyrics rose the band to  new heights. The sequined suits, long-beards and choreographed moves have highlighted their stage show for decades. ZZ Top had a massive hit in 1975 with “Tush” from the Fandango album.

By adding a synthesizer sound to their music in 1983, ZZ Top became the darlings of MTV with music videos featuring girls, legs and fast cars.  “Gimme All Your Lovin”, “Legs”, “Got Me Under Pressure” and “Sharp Dressed Man” all became cataclysmic hits for MTV and ZZ Top.

ZZ Top is till going strong to this day. The band was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall Fame in 2004.

Now excuse me while I go listen to: “Waitin’ For The Bus”and “Jesus Just Left Chicago!”
