Rock Lines Throwback Thursday: Glass Harp and Kent Stage Preview!

Glass HarpToday’s Thursday Throwback features Glass Harp, one of legendary bands from Youngstown, Ohio. Glass Harp featured the incredible guitarist Phil Keaggy, bassist, Daniel Pecchio and drummer, Jon Sferra. The band released 3 studio albums, ‘Glass Harp’ (1970), ‘Synergy’ (1971) and ‘It Makes Me Glad’ (1972). Each album was progressive, lyrically inspired and stunning. Glass Harp toured heavily in the Midwest (often with California openers, Biggie Rat), which instantly produced a cult-like fan following. All three albums were recorded at Jimi Hendrix’s Lady Land Studios in New York and released on Decca Records.

Phil Keaggy became a Christian and left the band in 1973. Daniel Pecchio would join The Michael Stanley Band in 1974 and John Sferra formed, Hartship. ‘Synergy’ and ‘It Makes Me Glad’ were discontinued by Decca and quickly became rare collector items. The Decca albums were finally re-released in 1993 by a German record company, before quickly going out of print. In 2005, Music Mill Entertainment re-issued the records and sadly became discontinued. Finally in 2011, iTunes released the entire Glass Harp catalog. Unfortunately, as of 2016, it appears the three original albums are out of print once again.

Since their breakup, Glass Harp have reformed for annual concerts and have released live recorded versions of the older tunes.

Glass Harp will perform at the Kent Stage on Saturday, September 3rd. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear many of their great songs once again! Phil Keaggy is just as masterful of a musician as he was back in the day! Besides, never is a long-time; if you’ve haven’t heard Glass Harp live!
