In later years, Charlie performed with Louis Salvador.

The band is rounded out with Scott Adams on keyboards and Tommy Allen on drums. Departure’s material is primarily Journey tunes with classic rock covers interspersed throughout their set. Check Departure out at a club near you!

Band of the Week: Cross Solder

by Bethany Brewer– Rock Lines journalist.

Somewhere within the small town of Lancaster, Ohio, four guys; who have the same love for music decided to put a band together. “It was just me and Marc at first,” Anthony Dunn said. “After a year we decided we wanted to start an actual band.” Cross Solder consists of Chad Lynn (vocals), Cameron Grandt (lead guitar), Anthony Dunn (bass) and Marc Allen (drummer).

“I use to work at a factory soldering circuit boards,” Dunn said. “Soldering kind of gave me an idea for the name so we mixed it up a bit. I thought the name was a good mixture of all of us and what we stand for.”

Cross Solder hasn’t had a shortage on hard work and dedication.

“We don’t have a manager or a producer so we take care of everything ourselves from booking shows to making music videos,” Marc said. “We also have released our first music video called Shameless.” The video can be viewed on their Facebook page at

The guys haven’t seemed to slow down yet, as they are about to film their 2nd video in Salt Lake City. “All I can say is expect tour buses, helicopters, and much more,” Dunn exclaimed.

Cross Solder will be participating in the Battle of the Bands at Alrosa Villa in Columbus on April 19th. The winners will walk away with a spot at Rock on the Range.

“We hope all of our fans come out to support us and get a chance to vote,” Dunn added. “We will be filming a few scenes that night so everyone that comes will get a chance to be in the music video.” Cross Solder will also have limited edition merchandise for purchase at the show. “We have everything from shirts to guitar picks,” Allen said.

Without a doubt these boys are giving all their effort and it shows by how supportive their fans are. “We hope to go as far as we can,” Dunn said. “And we won’t be letting anything hold us back along the way.”

Cross Solder’s self titled album can be purchased on iTunes and Google Play. To learn more on this band visit

Erik Norlander

Keyboard wizard, Erik Norlander will be at The Winchester Music Hall in Lakewood, Ohio on Friday, April 11th at 8:00 p.m. Erik is an ex-member of John Payne’s Asia, The Rocket Scientists (which included Cleveland drummer, Tommy Amato) and Erik performed with his wife’s progressive rock band, Lana Lane (which also at one time included Cleveland drummer, Tommy Amato).  Interestingly enough, Erick’s band is made up entirely of Ohio natives: Jeff Kollman (g), Mark Matthews (b) and Nick LePar (d).

Erik has written and produced more than 30 CD’s since 1993 . His playing of the ivories is reminiscent of Jon Lord, Rick Wakeman and Patrick Moraz. Opening for Erik Norlander will be Cleveland’s own progressive rock band- Krypton Monkeys.

Cinema Show

The Cinema Show

The Cinema Show

The Cinema Show (A Genesis Tribute Experience) is scheduled to appear on the Kent Stage in Kent, Ohio on Saturday, April 12th. The Genesis tribute band is one of the best in the world and features over 30 years of music from Phil Collins and company. A majority of the band members are ex- Fayrewether members (the 1980’s Genesis tribute band from Cleveland, Ohio) and are superb musicians.

I had the privilege of being invited to a private party and witnessed The Cinema Show in action and can attest to their progressive likeness to Genesis.   I apologize to the band for the review not getting posted in Rock Lines!

Tickets are available here!

Glass Harp March 2014

Glass Harp recently announced a performance scheduled for Friday, May 16th at The Mentor Fine Arts Center. The band has been in existence for 45 years and is celebrating its birthday. John Sfeera, Phil Keaggy and Daniel Pechio will provide an amazing evening of their music catalog.

Phil Keaggy is perhaps the finest guitarist in the world and the trio of Glass Harp will provide a delightful song of hope, embedded with soothing melodies and speckles of progressive musicianship unduplicated in musical genre.

Don’t miss this opportunity to witness one of the most prolific in rock history!

Ohio Music Memory

The Choir

In honor of Wally Bryson’s show tonight, I felt it would be a good time to feature Wally’s old band The Choir. Music Mike noted in the video intro the necessity of The Mods to change their name to The Choir. The band was comprised of Dave Smalley (rhythm guitar and lead vocals on It’s Cold Outside), Dave Burke (bass), Jim Bonfanti (drums), Dann Klawon (rhythm guitar) and Wally Bryson (lead guitar).

Interestingly, Eric Carman was turned down by the band after an audition as lead vocalist. Eric Carman eventually persuaded Wally Bryson to join his new band, Cyrus Erie; which became a Cleveland favorite band. Soon Wally Bryson quit and returned to The Choir. Confused yet?

Eventually  Bryson, Smalley and Bonfanti would join Eric Carmen to complete The Raspberries lineup. And if you don’t know what happened next, you’re gonna’ have to follow Ohio Music Memory to find out!
