Ohio Bike Week has been going on in Sandusky, Ohio as well as a good portion of the north coast since last Friday. Tonight (Thursday) the annual Downtown Block Party kicks off with national recording artist, Jackyl, which has become customary, taking the stage at 9:30 p.m. for the free show and playing until 11:30.

Prior to Jackyl coming on there will be two bands, WORLD ZEN’D Band (5:30-7:15) and Chrome (7:30-9:30) getting the crowd revved up (sorry, couldn’t resist).

Jesse James Dupree, Jackyl’s lead vocalist, was to get the day rolling by officiating an OBW wedding between Chris and Megan at 8:30 a.m. He then headed over to Mad River Harley-Davidson where he hopped on a bike to lead the yearly North coast bike run that goes through Marblehead, Catawba Island, Port Clinton and the scenic coast of Lake Erie. The run raises money for COTA in support of Madison Brenton and culminates back in Sandusky for the Comfort Inn’s World Famous Bikini Contest around 2:00 p.m.

Festivities downtown officially get started at 3:00 p.m. with Mike Risner providing an acoustic set on the Back Lot Stage until 5:30.

WORLD ZEN’D Band will be the opening act on the main stage and will start when Risner finishes. The four piece ensemble call Cleveland home and perform songs by artists such as TOOL, Audioslave and Soundgarden.

Erie, Pennsylvania’s Chrome is sandwiched in between the headliner and the opener. The biker band from The Keystone State cover rock bands such as Alice In Chains, Van Halen, AC/DC and Jackyl, to name a few. According to their Facebook page they play “ass kickin’ rock-n-roll…the kind your mom and dad wouldn’t let you listen to”.

Other musical acts that will be playing throughout Sandusky include Jasmine Cain, who is featured at the Jack Daniels Barrel House Saloon from 5:30-8:00. Disco Inferno will follow at 9:00 p.m.

Josh Boyd is slated to entertain the folks back at Mad River from 7-11.

Jackyl is recognized as one of ‘The Hardest Working Bands in Rock-N-Roll’, and has been performing their unique style for over 25 years. Chris Worley (drums) and his brother Jeff (guitar) were original members of the band that formed in the late 80’s towards the end of the ‘hair band era’. They really didn’t hit the mainstream until Dupree came on board, which led to a record deal with Geffen Records in 1991. The fourth piece to the puzzle, Roman Glick, signed on in 1990 and the quartet has been a touring machine since.

The band has produced multiple hits over their 25 years of existence such as “Down on Me”, “When Will It Rain”, “I Stand Alone”, “Dirty Little Mind”, “Headed For Destruction”, “My Moonshine Kicks Your Cocaine’s Ass” and of course “The Lumberjack”. The final tune has become synonymous with the band’s live performances. Dupree is front and center wielding a chainsaw slicing and dicing his way through a bar stool, usually with the help of someone from the crowd.

If you’ve never witnessed Jackyl’s southern metal sound first hand, you owe to yourself to get to Sandusky tonight. After all, with no charge, the price is right.

I’ll be there representing The Rust Belt Chronicles, and hope to see you there. Until next time this is Big L saying ‘keep those horns up and rock on’!! \m/ \m/
