Movie Review: Dirty Grandpa – A Shameless Good Time!

dirty grandpa2We all have visions of grandparents. The traditional silver or gray haired grandmother or grandfather, that we look at as an angel on our shoulders. Well, “Dirty Grandpa” turns that on its ear. This is one of the best times, I’ve ever had at a comedy. The premise is the Grandson (Zac Efron) must drive his Grandpa (Robert De Niro) from Atlanta, Georgia to Boca Raton, Florida after his grandma’s passing.

This movie literally has people of all ages laughing in the theatre. What the younger generating forgets is that the grand parents they love and admire were once young and had dreams, fears and desires just like they do. In addition, the now elderly people were once young and were very horny, just like us. How do you think we got here?

Dirty GrandpaI have never been a Zac Efron fan but I have to admit his comedic timing was on point  and very funny, along with his naturally on scream charm. The complete opposite is arguably one of the best known and legendary actors that have ever graced the silver screen, Robert De Niro. His take on being a former special forces officer that is struggling with getting older and losing friends, who wants to now live life to the fullest; will string a chord with millions of people. I have always loved his work and this is just the icing on the cake to a lustrous career.

Relative newcomers to the industry are the very funny, Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) and the amazingly beautiful, Zoey Deutch (Beautiful Creatures) and daughter of Lea Thompson. Supporting actress props to Julianne Hough (Curve) for playing the modern version of the self-centered girlfriend.

V day ad rust beltI give “Dirty Grandpa”, 4.5 out of 5 stars as it is a great care-free time and will take your mind off of life for a couple of hours. I dedicate this review to my Grandma  Joy who always had a great sense of humor and would have loved this film. The movie was just released this week and is now showing nation-wide, check your local listings for times.
