Heartsick and special guests Hollow Front, Sleep Waker, Hysteria and Weld the Wastegate tear up Music Lynxx in Mentor-on-the-Lake!!

Heartsick brought their mini tour to Music Lynxx in Mentor-on-the Lake, Ohio on Sunday January 28. With some updates to the lighting, and plans to make more room for larger shows, Music Lynxx is becoming a prime spot for local artists and will also be bringing in some quality national bands.

Local support for this particular show had Hysteria as well Weld the Wastegate getting things started. Both bands brought their unique sound to the stage and got the crowd moving in the right direction. The local scene doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves so we’d like to say ‘horns up’ for both openers.

Hollow Front out of Grand Rapids, Michigan came along with Heartsick. The crowd was out in full force in support of ‘Homewrecker’, Hollow Front‘s latest release.  “Chameleon” is the most recent single from the compilation which highlights the remarkable musical ability and stage presence of the four-piece ensemble. If you get the chance, get online and check out their Facebook page and give them a listen. I think you’ll like what you hear.

Another Michigan band, Sleep Waker, displayed their dark metalcore sound, featuring tunes from the April 2017 release ‘Lost in Dreams’. This hard-hitting quintet was fast and furious from the opening note and gave the Ohio scene a little taste of what Michigan has to offer.

Finally it was time for the headliner, our friends Heartsick from Lansing, Michigan, to take front and center. As usual frontman Alfonso Civile owned the stage. His stage presence is among the greatest you’ll ever see. His energy level is off the charts and is evident with his high-flying jumps and constant movement all over the stage. The trio behind him is as talented as there is in the music scene today. Jerred Pruneau handles the guitar duties while Waylon Fox (bass) and Justin Robinson (drums) take care of the pulsating rhythm section.

Heartsick and Civile are very opinionated (rightfully so) and gave the fans their view on the music industry today, stating that it is under attack. He encouraged the audience to help support all bands by buying merch and CDs directly from the bands saying ‘it’s the only way bands can afford to get out and tour with the rising costs that it takes to hit the road’.

I’m in agreement with Civile, it’s my belief that bands are being forced to come up with more creative ways to raise money to sustain living on the road. So, horns up to every band that hits the road and tours. Just know most fans are behind you 100 percent.

Heartsick is in the process of recording new material which is due to hit the shelves in 2018. They already have several performances planned in their home state. Be on the lookout for those dates and if you get the chance, take a road trip to Michigan to check out Heartsick in person; you won’t be disappointed.

Shannon Hamilton About Shannon Hamilton

Shannon Hamilton is also known as “Hammy” by his close friends. Born in Ashland, Ohio and he currently resides in West Salem, Ohio with my wife, Laura and daughter, Allysa. My love of music started when I found a copy of Black Sabbath’s 1973 album, “Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath’.
Music has always been a strong presence in my life starting as a young kid. My first concert was Iron Maiden at the age of 15 in 1988 at The Richfield Coliseum. My enjoyment of music extends to every level from the national, regional and local scene in Cleveland, Ohio. I tend to lean toward the heavy side of music scene with my favorite bands being MUSHROOMHEAD, Pantera and White Zombie.
