DOPE and Hed PE brought the Monster High Tour to Cleveland’s Agora Ballroom on Sunday October 15th with intent to give fans a night to remember. To say that they met their goal would be a vast understatement.

Joining the longtime national acts were @dub, Two Dead Roses and Youngstown’s Mettal Maffia.

@dub opened the night’s festivities with a rap-rock set that got the crowd off to a stirring start. Their heavy beats were definitely a crowd pleaser.

With an industrial metal sound, Two Dead Roses out of Akron was next to hit the stage. If you’re into the sound that Ministry and KMFDM have, then TDR is a band that you want to add to your play list. They are incredibly impressive and if the reaction of the crowd was any indication, they could be making that next step sooner rather than later.

Mettal Maffia was up next. The eclectic group has a knack for playing what the crowd wants to hear including sing-along cover songs. They play a wide range of sounds that include metal, rap and blues. MM played to a receptive crowd that loved what they were presenting.

Once the Youngstown band was finished it was time for Hed PE to take front and center.  Lead vocalist, Jared, shared his views about music and explaining how we are all bound by music, regardless of the color of our skin. In his words ‘we are family’ and beckoned everyone to unite. Hed PE is one of very few bands that can go from the reggae rock sound right into a fast punk chorus and back again. They make that beautiful mix of genres work to perfection.

Major Trauma, Kid Bass, and Will Von Arx join Jared to complete the Hed PE lineup. I’ve been a fan of the band for a long time but I can honestly say that I don’t think they played one bad song on the night. ‘Renegade’ proved to be a crowd pleaser as it had the crowd abuzz with electricity. Their set list also included hits like ‘Raise Hell’, ‘Bartender’ and ‘Sunshine’.

When their set was concluded they made a stringent effort to bump fists with as many fans as they could. Hed PE is one of the most entertaining bands around and if you haven’t had the opportunity to check them out; you want to make sure to do so. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

DOPE is another band that is a must see. Their full blown production is packed with three large screens that sit behind the band, several smoke machines and strobes.

They unloaded fan favorites like ‘Blood Money’, ‘6-6-sick’ and ‘FTP’ as well as an old 80’s cover of ‘You Spin Me Around’ that Edsel deemed the stupidest song you’re ever heard in your f—–g life There was a minor glitch during their rendition of ‘Blood Money’ but as true professionals, Edsel and the band endured and began the song from the beginning, much to the delight of the jam-packed crowd.

With nearly twenty years of experience under their belt, DOPE proved once again that they are still relevant in the metal world.

At the conclusion of their set, Edsel spent time thanking the fans for their support of DOPE over the years. He thanked everyone for coming out with promises to return as the rest of the band was spending time throwing out picks, drumsticks and set lists.

If you see that the Monster High Tour is playing at a venue near you, get off the couch and head over to said venue. It’s definitely worth the time.
